about

On capitalistic alienation and being gaslit into subservience. This one is a bit intertextual I guess.

lyrics

Screaming when born to a world so cruel
Beaten to submission and then sent to school
Where we're taught from the start to do as we're told
And follow the rules if you want to grow old
We grow big and strong as obedient drones
In a world of certainty where all is known
And we follow the leader, it's a comfortable game
Twisting ourselves so we're all the same
And then the wealthy offer us a "dignity in work"
In mindlessly serving the Mechanical Turk
But we live inside cubicles, machines of meat
As gears and wheels our humanity is obsolete
It's a war of attrition for the heart and the mind
Day after day, the same fucking grind
As the mindless drudgery eats away at your brain
Repetition repeats, again and again

[sample]
An honest day's work for an honest days pay. Live within your means. Support the police.

We spend our pay on circuses and bread
Keeping us calm and not seeing red
Watching the news for a two-minute hate
But they'll get theirs, oh, just you wait!
As forests burn and oceans boil
As famine spreads on fertile soil
We sit, relax and smugly think
That these are depth to which we'd never sink
But backs are broken as the overseers thrive
And democracy LIES DYING if she ever was alive
With a bullet in each chamber and a finger on the polls (the pulse)
She bleeds out on the floor as her muscles convulse
It's a tacit threat, a final warning:
"Don't bother to organise. Stick to mourning."
Class war's a joke, so join their laughter.
The buggers won't die, so what are they after?

We don't need your education
To tell us where we should belong
We don't need your education
We'll teach ourselves of right and wrong
Repetition, repetition
Shaping us all into clones
We can build a new ambition
We'll make a new world of our own

[sample]
Margaret Thatcher knew that if you— (interrupted by rapturous applause)
